What is the chaplet of Divine Mercy?

The Chaplet
of The Divine Mercy

Image used with permission from www.ChastitySF.comThe Chaplet of The Divine Mercy was given to Saint Faustina as a pledge that any soul that sees and realizes the gravity of its sins, and finds itself therefore immersed in misery, should not despair, but should, with child-like trust, throw itself into the arms of Christ's mercy. And it offers grace and hope to even the most hardened of sinners, if only such a person would recite the Chaplet even once.

Rosary beadsThe chaplet is prayed on traditional Rosary beads.

Begin with an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and The Apostles' Creed.

On the medallion, or a single bead, say this prayer:
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

On each of the ten beads of a decade, say this prayer:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Repeat the above two steps for the other beads.

On the chain of three beads say this prayer, once for each bead:
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Conclude with the Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina)-optional.

 The Our Father

(Note the seven petitions. Pray them with due attention.)

Listen Listen to the Latin

Pater noster, qui es in coelis,Our Father, who art in Heaven,
sanctificetur Nomen tuum

(1)

Hallowed be thy Name.
Adveniat regnum tuum;

(2)

Thy kingdom come;
fiat voluntas tua

(3)

thy will be done
sicut in coelo et in terra.on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Panem nostram quotidianum
  da nobis hodie,

(4)

Give us this day our daily bread,

et dimitte nobis debita nostra
  sicut et nos dimittimus
  debitoribus nostris.

(5)

and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive
those who trespass against us.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,

(6)

And lead us not into temptation
sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

(7)

but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Listen Listen to the Latin

Ave, Maria, gratia plena!
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus
  ventris tui, Iesus!
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.
Hail, Mary, full of grace!
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit
  of thy womb, Jesus!
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed

Listen Listen to the Latin

Credo in Deum,
Patrem omnipotentum,
creatorem coeli et terrae;
et in Jesum Christum,
filium ejus unicum,
Dominum nostrum,
qui conceptus est
de Spiritu sancto,
natus ex Maria Virgine,
passus sub Pontio Pilato,
crucifixus, mortuus,
et sepultus.
Descendit ad infernos;
tertia die
resurrexit a mortuis.
Ascendit ad coelos,
sedet ad dexteram
Dei Patris omnipotentis.
Inde venturus est
judicare vivos et mortuos.
Credo in Spiritum sanctum,
sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam,
sanctorum communionem,
remissionem peccatorum,
carnis resurrectionem,
vitam æternam. Amen.
I believe in God
the Father almighty
creator of Heaven and Earth;
and in Jesus Christ,
his only son,
our Lord,
who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died,
and was buried.
He descended to the dead;
on the third day
he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into Heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
of God, the Father Almighty.
From thence he will come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

The Salve Regina

Listen Listen to the Latin

Salve, Regina,
mater misericordiae;
vita dulcedo,
et spes nostra, salve,
Ad te clamamus,
exsules filii Evae.
Ad te surpiramus,
gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos
  ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum
  ventris tui, nobis post hoc
  exsilium ostende.
O clemens! O pia!
O dulcis Virgo Maria!
V. Ora pro nobis,
      Sancta Dei Genetrix,
R. Ut digni efficiamur
      promissionibus Christi.
Hail, holy Queen,
mother of mercy;
hail, our life, our sweetness,
and our hope!
To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping
in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy
  toward us,
and after this exile,
  show us the blessed fruit
  of thy womb Jesus.
O clement! O loving!
O sweet Virgin Mary!
V. Pray for us,
      O holy Mother of God,
R. That we may be made worthy
      of the promises of Christ.
